Difficulty level  : Intermediate
Skills required : Understand working in the round, and have knowledge of the stitches mentioned in the abbreviation list.

Techniques used : 

Work in the round, keep track of your stitch counts per round, ensure that the final count around your small squares are all the same.

Pattern size is based on working with a 3.5mm crochet hook and double knit cotton yarn, please note that using a smaller or bigger crochet hook, will change the final size of your crochet bucket hat.

Finished measurement
Crown Diameter : 7.5  inches / 19 cm
Hat side length : 4.75 inches / 12 cm
Hat brim length : 2.5 inches / 6.5 cm
Hat laid flat / Top to bottom : 10 inches / 25.5 cm

Tension
If worked flat: 2.5 inches x 2.5 inches, 
10 sts x 6 rows of 3 x half double crochet, 3 x double crochet rows.
If worked in the round: Crown Diameter : 7.5 inches / 19 cm
7 x rows of double crochet stitches.

The pattern in worked as follow 

Small crochet squares join to make the side panel of the hat. Please take note of rounds worked on top and bottom of the side panel of the hat.

The Crown of the hat is worked as a separate panel and joined to the side panel of the hat.

The rim is then joined to the bottom side panel of the hat.

Rows and Rounds : 
The turning chain counts as a base stitch for the next round.
If working in rounds do not turn at the end of each round or work with RS * right side facing front.

Small Crochet Star Squares ( Make 5 )

Start with magic ring

Round 1 - ( Color : White )

Work 1 sc into magic ring, chain2, counts as first dc st, 14 dc sts into the same magic ring, join with slip stitch in top of starting chain stitch,  (15 dc sts in magic ring ) 

Round 2 ( Color : White )

Ch5, 1 sc in 2nd chain from hook, 1 hdc in the next chain stitch, 1 dc in next chain stitch, 1 tr in next chain stitch, skip 2 sts from round 1, 1 sc in next stitch, rep from * ,  join with slip stitch on top of starting chain stitch, finish off color, work in ends. (5 star rays with 4 sts on each side of ray )

Round 3 ( Color : Blue )

Join a new color, in the first sc stitch of star ray sc st, * 1 sc in first st, 1 hdc in next stitch, 1dc in next stitch, 1 tr in last st stitch, skip sc stitch, 1 tr in next stitch, 1 dc in next stitch, 1 hdc in next stitch, 1 sc in next stitch, rep from * join with slip stitch on top of first stitch, finish off color, ch 1,  
(5 x 8 sts = 1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, 1tr, 1tr, 1dc, 1hdc, 1sc = 40 sts)

Ch3, counts as first tr st, 1 tr in next 2 sts, 4 dc in next 4 sts, * 1 tr in the next 3 sts, ch2, 1 tr in next 3 sts, 1 dc in next 4 sts,  repeat from * around square, 1 tr into last 3 sts,  join with slip stitch on top of starting chain stitch,  

(4 x 3 tr, 4 dc, 3 tr, ch2 per square side )

Round 5 ( Color : Blue )

Start in corner ch-sp, ch2 counts as first * 1 hdc st, 1 hdc in same chains space, ch2, 2 hdc in same ch-sp, 1 hdc into each stitch, of side until next ch-sp, repeat from * for remainder of sides and corner ch-sp(s), join with slip stitch in starting chain, finish off color.  (4 x 14 hdc sts,  ch2 per square side )
 

Join squares to make hat side band

Join 5 squares, by placing two squares on top of one another with the right sides facing inwards. 

Join squares by working one single crochet stitch into each stitch per side.
Do this for all 5 squares, to create the side panel of the crochet bucket hat.

Working on the top of the joined squares, use the same blue yarn as the square of round 5 for the final round of the small square. Join new color in any hdc stitch,

Join crown of 4th of july bucket hat to stars side of hat

Join the crown to the sides of the 4th of July Crochet Bucket hat

Turn the side panel of the hat inside out.
Turn the top crown panel WS front.

Join the two panels wrong side facing out with a half double crochet stitch into each of the stitches of the crown and the side panel. Turn hat right side front and make the rim.

Rim is worked on the RS- right of the the bucket hat, don't turn work between rows.
