detailed hexagon square crochet pattern

Lets make a pretty hexagon crochet granny square

Pretty hexagon crochet granny squares are a delightful and charming twist on the classic granny square motif that brings a smile to any crafter's face! Instead of the traditional square shape, these lovely little hexagons have six sides for a fun geometric look. They're a joy to crochet, with cheerful rounds of colorful yarn worked in a simple, repetitive pattern. Watching the hexagons take shape and stack up is so satisfying and uplifting.

You can mix and match different happy hues to customize your project's color palette. Whimsical combinations like sunny yellow, spring green, sky blue and soft lavender would make for a playfully pretty afghan or throw pillow. The tidy hexagon shape opens up exciting arrangement possibilities too, like trendy gradients or eye-catching kaleidoscopic designs that are sure to impress. Any project made with pretty hexagon granny squares is destined to spread cheer with its jaunty geometric charm!

How to Crochet Hexagon Granny Squares

Choosing Your Yarn

  • Select a medium-weight yarn (worsted weight or DK weight)
  • Choose a yarn with good stitch definition, such as 100% cotton or acrylic
  • Pick 2-3 complementary colors for your squares

Crochet Skill Level

  • Hexagon granny squares are an intermediate crochet project
  • Familiarity with basic crochet stitches like the chain, single crochet, and double crochet is required
  • Beginners may want to start with a simpler granny square pattern first

Sizing Your Hexagon Squares

  • Typical hexagon granny squares measure 6-8 inches across
  • The final size will depend on your yarn weight and crochet tension
  • Make a gauge swatch to determine your square size

Increasing or Decreasing Square Size

  •  Add or remove rounds to make the squares larger or smaller
  • Work more or fewer clusters in each round to adjust the size
