Easy to follow crochet granny squares project

Easy-to-follow flower granny square pattern

Features the classic African flower in the center of a larger crochet square with some variation of mixed stitches in the round.

A digital  PDF version of this pattern is available for purchase and includes easy step-by-step photographs and detailed written instructions.

Materials you will need to create this 8-petal crochet flower square

  • Worsted weight yarn, in the yarn colors of your choice.
  • Use a crochet hook which is specified by your yarn label, for this example I used a 4.5mm crochet hook.
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle, for weaving in ends

The example square is worked up in a 4.5mm crochet hook,on average using 5 skeins of yarn of 100m / 109 yards of yarn you can easily create 3 to 4 9-inch crochet flower squares.

Easy lapghan granny flower square blanket

Find Peace is a beginner friendly flower granny square crochet blanket pattern. Easy to make crochet flower squares repeats across the blanket, so once you have made two or 3 squares, you should have the pattern down, from there you can just relax and work your way through making each flower square in the color you love.

I find peace in crochet flower squares they are quick to make, and you can make one a day or evening, and you can work on Crochet squares much easier than on a large continuous blanket. You can easily make your flower granny squares during spring and summer, use fall to join and finish up the blanket, so you can join the cozy crochet spoils in winter.

The final lapghan blanket is lightweight and can be a great lounge throw addition to your home, with a combination of easy crochet v-stitches which is worked around the larger flower squares in combination with long time favorite the crochet granny square stitches.

Start with a magic ring, 

Round 1

1sc in magic ring, ch2, counts as the first dc st, 1 dc in the same space, counts as the second dc for dc2tog, ch 2,*dc2tog, ch 2, into magic ring, repeat 6 more times, join with sl into the top of starting ch stitch, pull the tail of the magic ring to close the loop and finish off color.
(8 x dc2tog, ch2, sts)

Round 2

Join new color with 1sc, in 2ch-sp from the round before, ch2 counts as the first hdc, 3 hdc in the same space, ch 2, *4 hdc in 2ch-sp, ch2, repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(8 x 4hdc in 2chsp, ch2) 

Round 3

Join new color with 1sc, in 2ch-sp from the round before, ch2 counts as the first hdc, 1 dc in same space, ch2, 2dc in the same ch-sp,*2 dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch-sp, repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(8 x 2dc, ch2, 2dc in 2chsp) 

Round 4

Join new color with 1sc, in space between the last and first 2 dc sts, from the round before, 6 dc into the next 2ch-sp,* 1sc, in space between the first and last and first 2 dc sts, from the round before, 6 dc into the next 2ch-sp, repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(8 x 1sc, 6dc in 2chsp) 

Round 5

Join new color with 1sc, in BLO - back loop only, of first dc stitch from the row before, working in BLO - back loop only, ch1, counts as first hdc st, BLO 1 hdc into each of the next 5 dc sts from the round before, 1 sc into space between first and last 2dc sts from round 3,* BLO 1 hdc into each of the next 6 dc sts from the round before, 1 sc into space between first and last 2dc sts from round 3, repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(8 x 6 BLO hdc sts, 1sc)

Round 6

Join new color with 1sc,  ch4, counts as first dc stitch, and 2 chain stitches, 1 dc into the same sc stitch,BLO, 1 hdc into next 2 sts, 1 sc into next 2 sts, 1 hdc into next 2 sts, 1 fphdc around next sc stitch, 
BLO, 1 hdc into next 2 sts, 1 sc into next 2 sts, 1 hdc into next 2 sts,* 1 dc in next sc st, ch2, 1dc in same stitch, BLO, 1 hdc into next 2 sts, 1 sc into next 2 sts, 1 hdc into next 2 sts, 
1 fphdc around next sc stitch, BLO, 1 hdc into next 2 sts, 1 sc into next 2 sts, 1 hdc into next 2 sts,repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(4 x 1dc,ch2,1dc, BLO 2hdc, 1sc, 2hdc, 1fphdc, BLO 2hdc, 1sc, 2hdc) 

Round 7

Join new color with 1sc, in corner 2ch-sp, ch 2 counts as first dc stitch, 1 dc same space, ch2, 2dc into the same space, 1 dc into the next 15 sts,   
* 2dc in corner 2ch-sp, ch2, 2dc into the same space, 1 dc into the next 15 sts, repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(4 x 2 dc , ch2, 2dc in 2chsp, 15 dc sts ) 

Round 8

Join new color with 1sc, in corner 2ch-sp, ch3 counts as first hdc stitch, and ch2,  1hdc into the same space, 1 hdc into the next 19 sts,* 1hdc in corner 2ch-sp, ch2, 1hdc into the same space, 1 hdc into the next 19 sts, repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(4 x 1 hdc, ch2, 1hdc in 2chsp, 19 hdc sts ) 

Round 9

Join new color with 1sc, in corner 2ch-sp, ch 2 counts as first dc stitch, ch2, 1dc into the same space,  **skip next 2 sts, 1 dc, ch1, 1dc (V-stitch) into the next st, repeat ** 6 more times, * 1dc, in corner 2ch-sp, ch2, 1dc into the same space,  **skip next 2 sts, 1 dc, ch1, 1dc (V-stitch) into the next st, repeat ** 6 more times,  
repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(4 x 1dc, ch2, 1dc, 7 x dc Vstitch ) 

Round 10

Join new color with 1sc, in corner 2ch-sp, ch 2 counts as first dc stitch, 2 dc into same ch-sp, ch2, 3dc into the same space,  **3 dc into the next 1ch-sp, repeat ** 6 more times,* 3dc, in corner 2ch-sp, ch2, 3dc into the same space,  **3dc  into the next ch-sp, repeat ** 6 more times,  
repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(4 x 3dc, ch2, 3dc, 7 x 3dc ) 

Round 11

Join new color with 1sc, in corner 2ch-sp, ch1 counts as first hdc stitch, 1 hdc same space, ch2, 2hdc into the same space, 1 hdc into the next 25 sts,* 2hdc in corner 2ch-sp, ch2, 2hdc into the same space, 1 hdc into the next 25 sts, repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(4 x 2 hdc , ch2, 2hdc in 2chsp, 25 hdc sts ) 

Round 12

Join new color with 1sc, in corner 2ch-sp, ch1 counts as first hdc stitch, 1 hdc same space, ch2, 2hdc into the same space, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc into the next 27 sts, 2 hdc in st, before 2ch-sp.
* 2hdc in corner 2ch-sp, ch2, 2hdc into the same space, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc into the next 27 sts, 2 hdc in st, before 2ch-sp., repeat from * around, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, and finish off color.
(4 x 2 hdc , ch2, 2hdc in 2chsp, 31 hdc sts )
