Beautiful Star shaped flower crochet square

The center bright star shaped flower motif is inspired by the flowers that grow on the mountain tops of my native country, while the pattern example is worked up in the colors inspired by this majestic flower, one can easily work this pattern in any color of choice.

Photo tutorial and square examples are made up of cotton yarn, this is only used as a suggestion, any yarn of your choice can be used.

Lightweight yarn using a smaller crochet hook will make a smaller square, and heavier yarn using a larger crochet hook will result in a larger square.

Yarn Usage :

+- 500m / 545 yards to complete 3 to 4 large squares, depending on the amount of colors used per square.

Square size: 24 x 24 cm / 9 x 9 inches, based on using a crochet hook size of: 3.5 mm

Pattern Instruction

Start with a magic ring,

Round 1

Ch3 counts as the first dc st, work 1dc. 15 more times into the same space, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch, ch1, finish off color.

(16 x 1dc sts in the magic ring)

Round 2

Join new color around post of any dc st, ch 2 + 3 (5), counts as first 1 fphdc and ch3, sk 1 st, *1fphdc around next post, ch3 skip next st, repeat from * around, join into the top of start ch with sl, finish off color. 

(8 x 1fphdc, ch3 in round)

Round 3

Join new color around post of skipped dc st from round 1, ch 3 + 3 (6), counts as first 1 fpdc and ch3, 1 fpdc around the starting chain post, 1 hdc st into fphdc st of round 2 , *1fpdc around next post, ch3, 1 fpdc around same post, 1 hdc st into fphdc st of round 2, repeat from * around, join into the top of start ch with sl, finish off color. 

(8 x 1fphdc, ch3 1 fpdc, 1 hdc in round)

Round 4

Join new color, in 3ch-sp from round 3, ch 3, counts as first 1 dc of * 6dc, into 1ch-sp, 1sc into next hdc st, repeat from * around, join into the top of start ch with sl, finish off color. 

(8 x 6dc-shell, 1 sc in round)

Round 5

Join new color with sc in BLO of first dc stitch of 6dc-shell, ch3, counts as 1 dc , BLO , 1 dc into the next 5 dc sts , 1 fphdc around sc st * BLO 1dc in each stitch of the 6 dc-shell sts, 1fpdc st around sc st, repeat from * around, join into the top starting chain stitch with sl, finish off color. (8 x BLO 6dc , 1 fpdc st in round)

Round 6

Join new color with fpsc around fpdc st after 6dc-shell, ch4, counts as 1fpdc, ch1, 1 fpdc around same post, sk1 st, 1dc, ch1, 1dc in next st, sk 2 sts, 1dc, ch1, 1dc in next st, sk next st, * 1 fpdc, ch1, 1 fpdc around fpdc, sk1 st, 1dc, ch1, 1dc in next st, sk 2 sts, 1dc, ch1, 1dc in next st, sk next st, repeat from * around, join into the top starting chain stitch with sl, finish off color. 

(8 x 1fpdc,ch1, 1fpdc, sk1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc , sk2 ,1dc, ch1, 1dc in round )

Round 7

Join new color with sc in any ch-sp, ch3, counts as first 1 dc, 2dc into same ch-sp, ch2, 3dc into the same ch-sp, 1 sc into the next ch-sp, *3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch-sp, 1sc in next ch-sp, repeat from * around, join into the top starting chain stitch with sl, finish off color. 

(12 x 3dc, ch2, 3dc in , 1 sc in round) 

Round 8

Join new color with sc in any ch-sp, ch3, counts as first 1 dc, 2dc into same ch-sp, ch2, 3dc into the same ch-sp, 1fpdc, ch2, 1fpdc around sc post from round before, * 3dc, ch2, 3dc, 1fpdc, ch2, 1fpdc around sc post from round before, repeat from * around, join into the top starting chain stitch with sl, finish off color. 

(12 x 3dc, ch2, 3dc in , 1 fpdc, ch2, 1fpdc in round) 

Round 9

Join new color with sc in any ch-sp, ch3, counts as first 1 dc, 3dc into same ch-sp, ch2, 4dc into the same ch-sp, 1 sc into the next ch-sp, *4dc, ch2, 4dc in next ch-sp, 1sc in next ch-sp, repeat from * around, join into the top starting chain stitch with sl, finish off color. 

(12 x 4dc, ch2, 4dc in , 1 sc in round) 

Round 10

Join new color in with sc in sc st counts as * 1sc in sc st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, 1 hdc, ch1, 1 hdc in 2ch-sp, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, repeat from * around, join into the top of the starting chain, finish off color. 

(12 x 1 sc, 4 hdc, 1 hdc, ch 1, 1 hdc, 4 hdc, in round)    

Round 11

Join new color in with sc in sc st counts as * 1 sl in sc st, 1 hdc in next 5 sts, 1 hdc, ch2, 1 hdc in ch-sp, 1 hdc in next 5 sts, repeat from * around, join into the top of the starting chain, finish off color. 

(12 x 1 sl, 5 hdc, 1 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc, 5 hdc, in round)   

Round 12

Join new color in BLO of first hdc st of any petal, ch3, counts as first * BLO, 1 tr into next 2 sts, 1dc into the next 2 sts, 1 hdc into next 2 sts, ch1, sk ch-sp, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1tr in next 2 sts, skip over 1 sc st, repeat from * around, join with sl into the starting chain stitch, finish off color. 

(12 x 2tr, 2dc, 2 hdc,, ch1, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 2tr in round)  

Round 13

Work only in the sts, sk the ch-sp’s.

Ch 4 counts as first * 1tr st, 1 tr in next 5 sts, 1 dc in the next 6 sts, 1 hdc in the next 3 sts, 1 sc in the next 6 sts, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, 1 dc in the next 6 sts, 1 tr in the next 6 sts, ch 2, repeat from * around, join with sl into the starting chain stitch, don't finish off color.

(4 x 6 tr, 6 dc, 3hdc, 6sc, 3hdc, 6dc, 6tr sts )

Round 14

Ch 3 counts as first * 1dc st, 1 dc in next 3 sts, 1 hdc in the next 30 sts, 1 dc in the next 3 dc sts, 2 dc in ch-sp, ch 2, 2dc in ch-sp repeat from * around, join with sl into the starting chain stitch, don't finish off color.

(4 x 3dc sts, 30 hdc, 3dc, 3dc, ch2, 2dc sts )

The pattern is worked in the round with (RS) right side facing front.

Understand the basics of working in the round.

Joining different yarn colors and how to end and finish rows.

Techniques used

Gauge: stick to the same yarn weight and crochet hook throughout making your squares, or your squares will not match up.

Working in ends, as you go will help you at the end when it comes to finishing the blanket unless you love spending a day at least to work on loose ends.
