Pattern works great for double knit and worsted yarn and using a Crochet hook between 3 mm to 4.5 mm will give you a good sized bag.
I used about 700m / 765 yards of double knit cotton yarn to complete the example crochet bag.
Approx. yarn used for pattern per color:
Natural Cotton white: The base color of the bag: is 400m
Light Sea Blue: Secondary color: 200m
Bark Sea Blue: 3rd Color: 100m
For the large sun decal in the center I used 3 colors, dark sea blue of which I used less than a 100m skein for two large squares, the light sea blue color I used about 2 skeins of 100m for 2 large squares, and the 10 sun decals for the smaller sun crochet squares and had enough left over to use in the strap. For the base color of the bag - the color that wraps around all the sun decals I used about 4 skeins of 100m each of natural cotton white, to finish off the two large squares and the small squares.
I used the remainder of the yarn for the strap of the bag.
The finished measurements for using a 3.5mm crochet hook is a height of 13' / 43 cm and a width of 13' / 33cm, the straps I have made to drop down to 13"/ 13 cm, from shoulder to where it is joined to the pouch of the bag.
