Construction Overview
Small crochet squares join to make the side panel of the hat. Please take note of the rounds worked on the top and bottom of the side panel of the hat.
The Crown of the hat is worked as a separate panel and joined to the side panel of the hat.
The rim is then joined to the bottom side panel of the hat.
Rows and Rounds :
The turning chain counts as a base stitch for the next round.
If working in rounds do not turn at the end of each round or work with RS * right side facing front
Smiley Face Square - Make 5 Squares
Round 1
Work 1 sc into magic ring, chain1 counts as first hdc st, 11 hdc sts into the same magic ring, join with slip stitch in top of starting chain stitch, ch1, (12 hdc sts in magic ring )
Round 2
RS - work right site facing front, ch1, counts as first dc stitch of round, 2 hdc into next stitch,
* 2hdc in next stitch, repeat from * until end of round, join with slip stitch in top of start chain, chain 1,

Use a smaller crochet hook , I suggest a 2.5mm
Eye{s) Make 2 for each small square
Start with a magic ring, 1 sc into magic ring, ch1, counts as first hdc stitch, 9 hdc sts into the same magic ring, pull the tail tight, and finish off the yarn.

Join squares to make hat side band
Join 5 squares, by placing two squares on top of one another with the right sides facing inwards.
Join squares by working one single crochet stitch into each stitch per side.
Do this for all 5 squares, to create the side panel of the crochet bucket hat.

Join Color, work in any ch-sp before join, 1 hdc into corner ch-sp. 1 hdc sts into the join st, 1 hdc into the next corner stitch, 1 hdc into the next 20 sts of crochet square, for a total of 120 sts, around, finish off yarn, work in ends.

Join the crown to the sides of the hat
Turn the side panel of the hat inside out.
Turn the top crown panel WS front.
Join the two panels wrong side facing out with a half double crochet stitch into each of the stitches of the crown and the side panel. Turn hat right side front and make the rim.
Make the rim of the hat.
Rim is worked on the RS- right of the bucket hat, don't turn work between rows.

RS - Right side facing front, join yarn with sc, ch2, counts as first dc st, 1 dc into the same stitch, 1 dc in the next stitch.
* 2 dc in the next stitch, 1 dc into the next stitch around, join on top of the starting chain, finish off color.
Round 2
RS - Right side facing front, join yarn with sc, ch2, counts as first dc st, * 1dc into the next stitch, repeat from *, join on top of the starting chain, finish off color.
Round 3
RS - Right side facing front, join yarn with sc, ch1, counts as first hdc st, * 1hdc into the next stitch, repeat from *, join on top of the starting chain, finish off color.
Round 4
RS - Right side facing front, join yarn with sc, ch2, counts as first dc st, 1 dc into the same stitch, 1 dc in the next stitch.
