Written Instructions
The delight of a flower granny square or even a normal granny square, is that they can be worked into so many bigger projects, like blankets, tote bags, pillow cases, by simply joining them is unique ways.
I love making squares and some example pattern where I use flower squares are the African Flowers Patchwork Blanket where I have created some fun truly South African Flower squares, and combined them into a afghan.
Another example of using flower granny squared are in this fun little tote bag I call Squared Flowers Tote.
This flower crochet square is worked in the rounds.
Written instructions is based on changing the color of the yarn for every row.
If you choose to use one color simple ch 1, after last slip stitch of each row and start new row with indicated chains, followed by the written instructions for that row.
Step by Step

Start with a magic ring,
Row 1
Sc, into magic ring, ch 4,
counts as first dc and ch 1,
1 dc into the same st,
* 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, into magic ring,
rep from * 7 more times,
join with sl into top of ch,
finish off color.
(8 x 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, st(s) in round)
Row 2
Join color in 1 ch-sp, ch 3, counts as first dc,
1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc into same ch-sp,
* 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc into the next 1 ch-sp,
rep from * rnd,
join with sl into top of ch 3,
finish off color.
(8 x 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, st(s) in round)

Join color with
* sc into sp bet 2 dc st(s),
6 dc-shell into 2 ch-sp,
rep from * rnd,
join with sl in sc,
finish off color.

Join color round Fphdc from previous row,
*1 Fphdc around Fphdc post,
BLO 1 hdc into each of the 6dc-shell stitches from previous row,
rep from * around,
join with sl into top of first Fphdc,
finish off color.

Join color in sp before, FPhdc,
* 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, into sp before FPhdc, ch 2,
