Making and joining straps of a crochet bag

Step by Step

First color,

Row 1

Chain 122, 1 hdc into 2nd chain from hook, 1 hdc into next 119 st(s) till end of row, (120 st(s) in row, ) ch 1, turn

Row 2

ch1, 1 hdc into next 119 st(s) till end of row, ( 120 st(s) in row, ) finish off color, work in ends.

Joining Straps

Row 3

Join new color in top corner stitch, ch2, (counts as first hdc ), 1 hdc into next 119 st(s) till the end of the row, work 2 hdc into a corner, 1 hdc into next st, 2 hdc into a corner, and 1 hdc into each of the stitches, working back on the initial chain row, work 2 hdc into the corner, 1 hdc into next st, 2 hdc into a corner, join with slip st into starting chain.

Row 4

Join new color in corner stitch, work 2 hdc into a corner, 1 hdc into next 2 sts, 2 hdc into a corner, and 1 hdc into each of the stitches, of the straight strip, 2 hdc into a corner, 1 hdc into next 2 sts, 2 hdc into a corner, and 1 hdc into each of the stitches, of the straight strip, join with slip st into starting chain.

Finish off, work in ends, and the handle is now complete

Join Straps

Join straps with some left over yarn and a yarn needle.

Simple stitch the straps onto the back of the top most square on each front side.

Repeat for the backside.
