1.Find the repeat range.
Look for pattern instructions like “Rows 2–5” or “Rep rows 2–5” ; that tells you which rows form the repeat sequence.

2.Work the rows once exactly.
Do the listed rows one time while watching your stitch count so you understand the rhythm and where increases/decreases happen.

3.Repeat as instructed.
If the pattern says “repeat rows 2–5 3 times”, most writers mean work that 4-row sequence three times total,(but some mean three additional repeats, see tip below).
If it says “repeat rows 2–5 until piece measures X”, keep repeating the sequence until you reach that measurement.

4. Keep stitch count consistent.
After each repeat cycle check your stitch count; mismatches mean you missed a stitch or worked the wrong place.

5.Use a counter or marker.
Mark which repeat you’re on with a row counter, tally marks, or a removable sticky note so you don’t lose track.

6.Finish where the pattern tells you.
Some patterns will say “end on Row 3” or “finish after X repeats”, follow that to transition to the next section.

Helpful tips / common pitfalls:

“Repeat rows” vs “repeat from * to *”:

The former repeats whole rows; the latter often repeats a sequence within a single row across the row.

Ambiguous wording:

If unsure whether a repeat count includes the first worked set, the safe approach is to count literally (e.g., if it says “repeat rows 2–5 3 times,” do the 2–5 sequence three times total) — you can always adjust to match gauge/measurements.

Measure, don’t only count:

When repeats are for length, measure your work instead of relying only on the number of repeats.

Record exceptions:

If a repeat requires a slightly different final repeat (e.g., “repeat rows 2–5, then work Row 6”), write that note down so you don’t accidentally finish in the wrong place.

Quick Pattern Example:

Row 1: SC across. Turn.
Row 2: Ch2, DC across. Turn.
Row 3: Ch2, *FPdc in next, BPdc in next* repeat. Turn.

Instruction:
