1.Choose a location

This can be your hometown or any location that has meaning to you.

2.Select a year

This can be your current year or select a memorable year like a pregnancy, an anniversary, birth, or graduation year. If you wish to make a temperature blanket for the current year, you can use the average daily temperature from the year before. for a historical or memorable year, visit your favorite weather website to get the temperature for your location and year.

3.Record your temperatures

Using a notepad or the printable journal of the Mixed Stitch Crochet Temperature blanket.

Record the highest and lowest temperatures of each month over 12 months.
This will give you a great starting point when selecting a temperature range for your color swatch.

For example,

If your highest average temperature in a year is 37°C / 98°F and the lowest average temperature is 0°C / 32°F, select a color swatch between the above-mentioned temperatures.

Doing a bit of homework beforehand helps you have a better idea of the range of temperatures and will save you some money in the long run, as you won't have skeins of yarn colors that are left over or not even used once your blanket is complete.

Measure the gauge swatch width.
Find the width of the blanket size you wish to make for example Twin bed - in the standard blanket table listed in the pattern.
Then use your swatch width to determine your starting chains, using the sizing table provided in the pattern.

Width required for finished blanket : Twin - 63 x 95 cm / 160 x 240 cm

Start with the overall min and max temperatures are for your area,
Select your colors, the color choice is completely up to you, if you wish to have a lot of color variations in your rows then use one color per temperature, if you live in a climate where there is a huge temperature shift and have a large temperature range then perhaps consider changing colors every 2 to 3° degrees.

For example:

I started with a low of 0°C and a high of 38 °C
I chose 16 of my favorite colors in my example blanket,
Then I divided the total amount of temperatures with the the number of colors I selected
38 / 16 = 2.3 , that gave me One color for each 2 °C on the scale.

I live in a warm climate, and with a low of 0°C and a high of 38 °C ,most days has an average of 20°C - 28°C,
I wanted to have clear lines between days, so I opted to use
one color for every 1°C on the scale between 20°C - 28°C, and
one color for every 2 - 3, even 5 °C. For the temperatures above and below the daily averages.
