Sunshine Day Crochet Square

This pattern is written and charted using standard US crochet terminology.

Skills required
Understand the basics of working in the round.
Joining different yarn colors and how to end and finish rows.

Techniques used

Gauge:  stick to the same yarn weight and crochet hook throughout making your squares, or your squares will not match up.
Work in ends, as you go will help you at the end when it comes to finishing the blanket unless you love spending a day at least to work on loose ends.

Pattern Notes

The pattern is worked in the round with (RS) right side facing front.

Materials used for crochet flower pattern

Yarn weight : DK - Double knit yarn
Crochet hook size : 3.5mm
Yarn length required is approx : 600m / 545 yards to complete squares 3 to 4 crochet flower squares
 Number of skeins /colors used : 5
Colores used : Egg Yellow, Bright Yellow, Tomato Red, Burt Orange, Turquoise Blue, Cream, Moss Green
Yarn length per skein : 100m / 109 yards
Finished measurement : Square size : 30 x 30 cm /  11 x 11 inches

Sunny Day Crochet Flower Pattern Instructions 

Abbreviation

bet: bet
BLO: back loop only
ch: chain
ch-sp: chain space
dc: double crochet
FPdc: front post double crochet
FPhdc: front post half double crochet

Start with a magic ring,

Round 1

Ch3 counts as the first dc st, ch1, 1dc, ch1,  11  more times into magic ring, join with sl into the top of starting chain stitch, finish off color.
(12 x 1dc sts in the magic ring)

Round 2

Join new color in 1 ch-sp from the round before, ch3 counts as 1dc st, 1 fpdc around post of next dc st, *1dc in 1ch-sp, 1 fpdc around next dc post, repeat from*,  join with sl into the top of starting chain stitch, finish off color.
(24 sts = 12 x 1dc, 1fpdc )

Round 3

Join new color in fpdc st from round before, 1 puff stitch into same stitch, ch1, skip next stitch. *1 puff stitch, ch1, skip next stitch,repeat from*,  join with sl into the top of first puff stitch, finish off color.
(24 sts = 12 x 1puff, 1ch, 1 sk )

Round 4

Join new color in dc st from round before, ( the skipped stitch) 1 puff stitch into same stitch, ch1, 1fpsc around next puff stitch from round 3. *1 puff stitch in skipped stitch, ch1, 1fpsc around next puff stitch from round 3,  repeat from*,  join with sl into the top of first puff stitch, finish off color.
(24 sts = 12 x 1puff, 1ch, 1fpsc )

Round 5

Join the new color in 1ch-sp from the round before, Ch3 counts as first dc st, 1 dc into the same ch-sp, 1 fpdc around next puff stitch.* 2dc in 1chsp, 1fpdc around next puff stitch, repeat from*,  join with sl into the top of first chain stitch, finish off color.
(72 sts = 24 x 2dc, 1fpdc )

Round 6

Join new color in fpdc st from the round before, Ch3, 2 dc into the same stitch, skip 2 stitches,* 1sc in stitch, ch2, 2 dc into the same stitch,repeat from*,  join with sl into the top of the first chain stitch, and finish off the color.
(24 x 1sc, ch2, 2dc, sk2 )

Round 7

Join the new color in the top space between 2ch  and 1dc st from the round before, Ch3, 2 dc into the same stitch, skip 2 stitches,* 1sc in stitch, in top of 2ch-sp, ch2, 2 dc into the same stitch, repeat from*,  join with sl into the top of first chain stitch, and finish off color.
(24 x 1sc, ch2, 2dc, sk2 )

Round 8

Join new color in the top space between 2chains and 1dc st from the round before, Ch3, counts as 1dc st, 2 dc into the same stitch, skip 2 stitches,* 3dc, in top of 2ch-sp, skip 2 sts, repeat from*,  join with sl into the top of first chain stitch, and finish off color.
(24 x 3dc )

Round 9

Join a new color in the space between 3dc sts from the round before, Ch3, 3 dc into the same space, skip 3 dc stitches,* 4dc, in space, skip 3 dc stitches, repeat from*,  join with sl into the top of first chain stitch, finish off color.
(24 x 4dc )

Round 10

Join new color in the space between 3 dc sts from the round before, Ch3, counts as first dc st, 1 dc into the same space, ch2, 2 dc into same space, 1 dc into next 4 dc sts, 1hdc into the next 4 sts, 1sc into next 8 sts, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, 1 dc into next 4 sts, *2 dc into space between, ch2, 2 dc into same space, 1 dc into next 4 dc sts, 1hdc into the next 4 sts, 1sc into next 8 sts, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, 1 dc into next 4 sts, repeat from*, to create for sides of the square,  join with sl into the top of first chain stitch, finish off color.

Round 11

Join new color in 2ch-sp from the round before, Ch3 counts as first dc st, 1 dc into the same space, ch2, 2 dc into same space, 1 dc into next 6 dc sts, 1hdc into the next 4 sts, 1sc into next 8 sts, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, 1 dc into next 6 sts,
*2 dc into space between, ch2, 2 dc into same space, 1 dc into next 6 dc sts, 1hdc into the next 4 sts, 1sc into next 8 sts, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, 1 dc into next 6 sts, repeat from*, to create for sides of the square,  join with sl into the top of first chain stitch, finish off color.

Join new color in 2 ch-sp from the round before, chain 2, counts as first hdc st, 1 hdc into the same ch-sp, ch2, 2 hdc into the same chain space, 1 hdc stitch into each stitch until next 2ch-sp,
*2 hdc in ch-sp, ch2, 2hdc in same ch-sp, 1 hdc into each stitch until next 2 ch-sp,  rep from * for all 4 sides, join with sl into the top of the starting chain stitch and finish off the color.
